Chargers take on Owens Community College

This past Saturday the Owens Express travel south to take on the Edison Chargers here in Piqua, and left with wins to add to their basket.
The women's game proved to be a thriller by going into overtime. The Lady Chargers were down by 16 at halftime but made a huge comback and tied the game with a three by Rachel Thobe in the closing seconds. The Chargers were led by strong play from sophomore Haley Fannon and her hitting some crucial treys.......4 in regulation play and 1 in overtime. Another sophomore Megan Mummey had a strong rebounding game by pulling down 6 and chipping 10 points also. The Lady Chargers failed to hold onto the lead and ended up loosing to Owens in overtime 81-76.

Chargers take on the Eagles of Clark State

The Chargers traveled to Clark State Community College on Wednesday night and split the games with the Eagles.
The Lady Chargers shot down the Eagles early on in the game and cruised to a victory winning by a considerable margin 92-36. The Lady Chargers improve their overall record for the season 15-6 and 5-3 in the OCCAC.

Edison -vs- Cincinnati State

The Lady Chargers met their match when they traveld to Cincinnati State. Although the Lady Chargers played a strong game but they lost to the Lady Surge 71-52. The Chargers had a balanced attack from the entire team, but just came up short in the end. The Lady Chargers record goes to 12-6 and 2-3 in OCCAC Conference play.

The Men's team jumped out to a quick lead over Cincinnati State and held on strong until the final "surge" from Cincinnati proved to be too much for the Chargers as they dropped the game 91-82. The Chargers led at half-time 48-33 but Cincinnati State came out of their locker room fired up for the second half and took command of the game. The Chargers record drops to 14-8 and 3-3 in OCCAC Conference play.

Despite strong play from sophomore Megan Mummey the Chargers couldn't pull off a victory at Owens Community College. Mummey had 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. The Lady Chargers played well the entire game but just didn't get some of the breaks they would have liked from the officials. The final score of the game was Edison : 55 Owens : 65 . The Chargers record went to 12-5 and 2-2 in the OCCAC Conference.

The Men's team also dropped their game against Owens despite a last chance effort in form of a half court shot that went around the rim and went out. Freshman Alex Hoying had a strong showing with 20 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. With several Charger men scoring in double digits it was a balanced effort from the whole team. Mounir Benzegala dished out 5 assists and Kelly Tussing pulled down 4 rebounds. The final score of the game was Edison : 74 Owens: 76. The Chargers record went to 14-7 and 3-2 in the OCCAC Conference.

The Lady Chargers were victorious agains Clark State the other week. The Chargers led at half time 40-15 after playing a solid first half and continued that play throughout the rest of the game and won 70-40. Jodi Zimmerman pulled down 10 rebounds for the Chargers and had several blocked shots. Megan Mummey also pulled down 7 rebounds and Haley Fannon pulled down 9. The Lady Chargers out rebounded Clark 42-24. The Lady Chargers improved their record to12-4 and 2-1 in the OCCAC Conference

The game was tied at 81 with 18 seconds remaining and Alex Hoying was inbounding the ball under the Charger's basket and found Kelly Tussing open and he laid it in to take a 2pt lead with 16 seconds left. With a big steal by Jason Sowery, a Morris Brown put back, and key free throws by Joe Shardo, the Chargers pulled of the win 85-81 over Clark. The Chargers improve their record to 14-6 and 3-1 in the OCCAC Conference.
